The beginning
The History of our taste began in 1943, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, with the opening of the patisserie and tea room “A Vieira de Castro” on one of the main and busiest streets in the city. Initially dedicated to the manufacture of traditional pastries and confectionery, it became renowned in the region for the delicious bolo-rei (literally, king cake, a traditional Christmas cake) and sponge cake. The growing fame and demand led its founder, António Vieira de Castro, a dynamic man with a bold vision, to quickly transform the business by opening a factory. No longer a local patisserie, it became an industry of national importance. Thus was born Vieira de Castro & Filhos Lda., and it quickly became a national reference in the production of biscuits, almonds and candies. Some of its iconic creations, such as the Water Cracker, the irresistible Cláudias Almonds and the original Flocos de Neve (literally, snowflakes), are still part of the collective imagination of the Portuguese today and continue to preserve the original flavour and quality that makes them clearly distinguishable.
